MEMS Employment

METROPOLITAN EMERGENCY MEDICAL  SERVICES is now accepting applications for full-time and part-time EMT-B and PARAMEDIC positions.

Requirements:   Arkansas and National Certification, American Heart BLS Level C, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Arkansas driver’s license with record acceptable to insurance carrier. Out of state applicants will need to contact the Arkansas Department of Health, Division of EMS and work through reciprocity.  Their number is 501-661-2262. Paramedic’s and EMT’s respond to emergency requests for medical attention.  They provide pre-hospital emergency medical care, and operate/drive the ambulance.
If you are not certified and have an interest in this field, we offer an EMT Rookie School annually, usually in the Fall of the year.  For more information, please contact MEMS Human Resources Department and request an EMT ROOKIE PACKET at 501-301-1414.

We hope the following information will give you more insight into the position you are seeking. 

SALARY: The starting salary range for a Paramedic is $24,264 to $25,720 depending on experience.  $24,264 for a Paramedic with one year experience, with an additional 3% given up to 3 years of experience, for a maximum of 6%.

OVERTIME: Is available by voluntarily working open shifts through the Scheduling Department.  Overtime is most commonly available by working special events such as Twisters games, WWF events, Concerts, Razorback football games, the Arkansas State Fair, RiverFest and numerous other events where scheduling may need to place workers. 

SHIFTS: MEMS offers a wide diversity of shift options:  12 hour days or nights, 14 hour days or 24 hour “outlying” shifts.  MEMS has “BLS Trucks” scheduled for 8 hour days.

BENEFITS: MEMS provides full coverage for Health and Dental Insurance for all full-time employees and pays full premium.  MEMS provides a $25,000 term life and AA&D insurance policy for all full-time employees.  MEMS pays the full premium of Long Term Disability Insurance to provide full-time employees with coverage that will provide 60% of monthly base earnings for disabilities.

Employee benefit options: Short Term Disability, Family Medical/Dental Insurance Coverage, Credit Union Membership, Additional Supplemental Life Insurance for employee and family.

MEMS offers a 401(a) Retirement Plan: Full-time employees receive contributions ranging from 1% of base pay for the first year of service to a maximum contribution of 7% of base pay for a 20-year employee.  In addition, MEMS will contribute matching dollars up to 4% of base pay for job responsibilities accepted by the full time employee.

Uniform Allowance: MEMS provides a complete uniform set-up ($200) value).  $12.00 is placed in the employee’s uniform allowance each pay period for additional uniform purchases.  Part-timers get 14-cents for every hour worked toward uniforms.

Training: MEMS offers over 400 hours of approved continuing education each year for Paramedics and EMT’s to fulfill both Arkansas State and National Registry requirements at no cost to the employee.  MEMS’ Training Department maintains records of all continuing education activity for the employee and provides assistance with re-certification paperwork.

PAID TIME OFF: MEMS has a plan in place to allow each full-time employee to take personal time off for holidays, sick time and vacation time fully paid as follows:

 

1 through 3 years of service One (1) week
4 through 6 years of service  Two(2) weeks
7 through 10 years of service Three (3) weeks
After 10 years of service Four (4) weeks
