NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 17, 2025) - MEMS hosted a ribbon cutting today for its new station in North Little Rock to be called “MEMS North.” Located at 711 W. 29th St., North Little Rock, AR 72114, the facility was recently remodeled after MEMS purchased the budling from the City of North Little Rock in 2023.

North Little Rock Mayor Terry Hartwick joined Greg Thompson, executive director of MEMS, Derrell Hartwick, president & CEO of North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce, and Bob Butler, vice president of Alessi Keyes to mark the occasion.

“We are excited for MEMS to have a physical presence in North Little Rock. MEMS continues to provide life-saving services for our residents. This longtime partnership is such a positive force in our city,” said Mayor Hartwick.

The 4,800-square foot building will host an auxiliary communications center, crew rest area including restrooms and showers, as well as a training area for MEMS and other first responders. Renovations on the facility were led by Alessi Keyes Construction.

“MEMS is honored to serve the North Little Rock and surrounding areas” said Greg Thompson, executive director of MEMS. “This facility is a testament to our commitment to provide the highest quality of care for these communities.”

About MEMS MEMS is a public, non-profit entity, and is governed by the Little Rock Ambulance Authority (LRAA). Serving Pulaski and Grant Counties and the cities of Maumelle, Sherwood, and Cabot, MEMS covers approximately 1,800 square miles and more than 400,000 people. Since 2001, MEMS has been accredited with the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) which signifies a “Gold Standard” in emergency medical service providers.

MEMS Second Service in Arkansas to be Pediatric Ready Certified

MEMS is proud to announce that we are the second EMS service in Arkansas recognized as Pediatric Ready!

The National Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Project (PPRP) is the leading joint initiative to improve prehospital care for acutely ill and injured children across the United States. The PPRP is led by the federal Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Program with support from more than 30 national organizations, federal partners, and experts. The PPRP empowers EMS and fire-rescue agencies to become “pediatric ready” or prepared to provide high-quality care for children in accordance with national recommendations.

Why improve prehospital pediatric care?

Children have unique characteristics that require specific care, especially in emergencies. Pediatric incidents account for approximately 10% of all prehospital calls. The limited frequency of pediatric interactions results in clinicians being less familiar with – and often less confident in – providing pediatric care. Being “pediatric ready” can reduce anxiety and increase confidence for EMS clinicians.

We will proudly display our recognition stickers on every ambulance!

MEMS enters Purple Status due to Anticipated Winter Weather

At 12:00 PM on January 14, 2024, Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services (MEMS) transitioned into purple status operations. This decision was made in anticipation of the upcoming winter weather, which was expected to have a great impact on the service area.

Purple status is initiated in several circumstances, most often during significant weather events such as snow and ice, enacting policies that ensure the response system is staffed to respond to an influx of calls that may develop due to unfavorable conditions.
